Who are the members of Penny Creek? The band was formed by a group of friends, but has grown to be much more. Along the way we have added members and feature a varying lineup. As our members' reputations grow, we find ourselves in demand in a variety of ways--almost all of the players play in more than one band! So this is less of a "band member" list than a "cast of characters", and the exact cast you encounter when you see Penny Creek could include everybody listed here, or just about any combination of these pickers, and you may also see a surprise guest or two!

Ralph Cox: Guitar and Vocals

Born and raised in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, Ralph has played in various bluegrass bands in his 35 years as a musician. He fondly remembers his childhood growing up along with his friend Del McCoury. We jammed a lot together back then and had some good times, Ralph remembers. Ralph sings a million songs and plays guitar in the band. He's a crowd pleaser for sure and a jokester at times. Everybody loves Ralph and we're very fortunate to have him on stage with us.

Susan Pounds: Mandolin, Guitar and Vocals

Born in New Orleans and raised in Alabama, Susan moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1986. She started playing guitar in 1987 when her son decided after 2 months of lessons that it was not for him. By then she fell in love with the guitar and soon after found her groove in Bluegrass music. She attributes her husbands sister, Bonnie Phillips, and Gary Waldrep of the The Gary Waldrep Band for exposing her to bluegrass music. Susan started playing the mandolin back in 2000 and is still playing it today. Her strong vocals and leading personality makes her the perfect leader of the band.

Isaac Taylor: Banjo and Vocals

Born a fourth generation Florida boy, in Kissimmee, raised in Vero Beach and homeschooled his entire educational career, Isaac will graduate from high school in 2009. Currently, he is studying Music Theory at Indian River State College as a Dual Enrolled Student. He is also working on his Eagle Project which he must complete before he turns 18 in December.
Music has always been his passion. He started helping his father lead singing in church when he was just four years old. His first love is acapella hymn singing, especially Sacred Harp music, with all of its beautiful harmonies. After watching the movie, Oh, Brother Where Art Thou? , he became inspired to learn more about Bluegrass music. Ralph Stanley, in particular, sparked his interest in the banjo. In 2004, just after Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne, he gladly left behind four years of piano for a new adventure on the five string banjo.
With a few teachers showing him the basics early on, he soon discovered that he could learn songs by ear. Isaac plays his banjo every spare minute of the day. If he is not playing, he is researching something about banjos or Bluegrass. His younger siblings are often lulled to sleep at night by its charms.

He is not sure what he wants to be when he grows up, but whatever he does for a day job, he sure hopes to keep playing Bluegrass at night.
